Profile – Daniel Coates
Daniel Coates is one of our Principal Solicitors, Nationally Accredited Mediator, and Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner.
I have been involved in Family Law for many years. Since my admission to law, I have chosen to specialise in family law, and have practicing in both the public and private sectors.
More and more frequently, I see families taking a different direction to that which they started out with. I have chosen to specialize in family law because I believe that different direction does not have to result in the animosity that we hear about so often. The new beginning can be a positive one, and particularly where children are involved, parents should strive for it to be. I understand and appreciate the need for a holistic approach to family law, and ensure my client’s financial and emotional wellbeing is as secure as their legal position. My clients regularly describe me as providing calm and level headed advice, which keeps them strong and on the right path to their new beginning.
Through university, I achieved a Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Psychology and Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice and through my law studies, I was invited to join the Golden Key International Honours Society in recognition of my scholastic achievement and excellence in law study.
Whilst working at Legal Aid Queensland, I obtained a significant amount of experience as a solicitor advocate in the Family Court, Federal Circuit Court, Children’s and various Magistrates Courts throughout south east Queensland in some of the most complex and challenging legal cases. I believe my courtroom and negotiation skills have delivered some significant wins for my clients.
My practice is primarily in Family Law, but I also act for clients in Child Protection, Family Violence and Child Support proceedings, having advised and acted in both local and international child support disputes. I also advice in relation to wills and estate planning matters.
I also strongly believe in family law clients having access to quality legal advice and a strong sense of community justice, and have volunteered my time for many years at the Nundah Legal Clinic, and more recently acting on the Management Committee for the Nundah Neighbourhood Centre & Community Legal Service. I have also acted as a past committee member on the Queensland Law Society’s Access to Justice / Pro Bono Law Committee.
I am a member of the Queensland Law Society, Family Law Practitioners Association of Queensland, the Law Council of Australia – Family Law Section.
